It was late winter. A little electric mouse fumbled upon the icy roads of a town. He was lonely and cold and tired. The Pikachu had been on a long trek to somewhere for nearly a year now. He didn’t really know what somewhere ment yet, but he was determined to find it. Once he slid on the ice and then growled, got up, and angrily pressed forward.

He thought about how he missed the beautiful world he once called home. A lovely spring on top of a mountain were he could live among other Pokemon…away from people. But he didn’t have that wondrous place now, and everywhere he went he saw humans, mostly with Pokemon.

A warm, bright light shown from the first story of an apartment home. The Pikachu, desperate for heat, jumped up on the window of the house. His senses where instantly flooded with new, fascinating information. A sweet, sweet smell wafted from something. Inside the lights where bright and stunning. There was talking and singing and laughter as people and their Pokemon companions enjoyed each other’s company.

He growled. Not so much out of rage, but out of surprise.

Suddenly a familiar feeling crept over him. That strange fear that had scared him away from human contact for so long had struck again. He fell off of the window and started to run frantically. Escape. Run. Stay away from them before they make you a slave. He ran until he skidded across the icy ground and landed right in front of the doorstep of the place he wanted to get away from.

Then a great blackness came and consumed him, and he was silently in peace.

The next thing he knew was a feeling of being lifted by something he did not know. A new sensation. But it was a good one, and he didn’t struggle. He felt he was being brought into a place of great warmth and light and sound. He felt elated by it all, and again fell into a deep sleep.

He awoke to a strange situation. He was fully conscious, but all he could see was darkness. Then he noticed that someone or something seemed to have a firm grip around his neck. This of course sent the Pikachu into a panic. But he didn’t have any idea what to do, as any movement made the thing gripping his next tighter. So he didn’t move. He found that the black around him had walls that limited his space anyway.

For the longest time, he sat there in the darkness, contemplating this awkward scenario and trying to find a way to get out of it. Without warning, the dark became less so. This is to say it was still dark, but became somewhat brighter. Then something shook his little world up and down, like it was a salt or pepper shaker.

Finally, out of the corner of the black shown an orange light. The orange light grew progressively larger, until it seemed like the sky of the black was removed completely from existence and replaced with a bright glow. He looked up and was startled by what he saw.

There, peering down at him sitting in the black was a young human child. A female, by the looks of it. She had long blond locks and was wearing a red and green dress like humans often do during their festivities. She smiled down at the Pikachu. He didn’t smile back, but shocked, he failed to manage a growl or a snarl either. He just sat there looking petrified.

The human girl was overshadowed by an older figure, a male. He was still a child, but several years more mature then the smaller one who’d rescued Pikachu from the blackness. He was a blond too, and Pikachu suspected he came from the same human family as that younger one.

The older human spoke.

“Well, Melody, do you like him?” He said in a manner that Pikachu knew he was asking a question. He supposed he was asking it to the younger human.

“He’s perfect!”, said the little human, and she joyously hugged the older one. Then, much to Pikachu’s horror, she turned to him and lifted him out of the remaining black, and gave him an equally big hug. Normally he would have shocked a human who touched him, but to his great surprise, he liked the little girl’s contact. He suddenly felt at ease, and a feeling of connection he couldn’t quite put his paw on took over. He sat there limply as the little human continued to embrace him.

“Hey, Pikachu, I think you must be hungry. Wanna Christmas cookie?” she said, putting him down next to the blackness, which he understood to be a container of some sort.

He didn’t have any way of knowing what a Christmas was, or a cookie, but she was right. He WAS hungry. So he sat there and watched as the little girl ran out of the room with a spring in her step, and he was left all alone with the older male human. Out of impulse, he turned and looked to see what the boy would do.

“You know, you’re a funny looking Pikachu. You’ve got weird patterns on your ears.” He said, seemingly knowing that the Pikachu was questioning what his actions would be.

The Pikachu felt his checks crackle. He hated it when anyone, especially people, commented on his ears. He growled at the male human as a warning to not say anything else.

“Whoa, wait, I didn’t mean to offend you or anything. I mean, that’s actually kind of cool. You’ve got something that sets you apart from others. I think that’s a great thing to have. Not everybody can say they have something special like that.”

“Pika?” said the Pikachu, turning his head to one side. It was the first time he’d spoken to a human in a very long time. But the human was the first ever to comment on his ears in a positive way, something he’d never imagined he’d hear. He wanted to listen, to hear more about what this odd human had to say about him.

“Yeah, you’re special. Not just because of your ears, but because you showed up at our doorstep just in time for Christmas. I’ve never been one to believe in Christmas miracles, but you’re something else, Pikachu.

That word “Christmas”, again. It felt vaguely familiar, but he still had no idea what it ment. His thought process was interrupted by the little human girl yelling from the other room. She was holding something colorful as she walked in and immediately begun telling her male sibling off.

“Isaac, you silly Spoink! Almost all the cookies are gone! There’s only one left for Pikachu!” She said, shaking the cookie in front of his face.

The boy laughed nervously and smiled.

“Well, at least there still is one.” He said, trying to make light of things.

The human girl Melody came over to Pikachu and put the colorful thing between his paws. It smelled good, and realized it must be the thing he’d smelled outside of the warmth before. He wasn’t sure what to do with it, so he just sat there grasping it. He looked up at Melody and cocked his head to one side, confused.

“Go on, eat it. It’s food.” She advised.

Pikachu nibbled a bit on the sweet smelling, colorful object. If it smelled good, it tasted better, and he wolfed it down and smiled broadly. These where the nicest humans he’d ever known. He assumed that the strange fruit he’d been given was what Melody had referred to as a cookie. He decided he liked cookie fruit very much and would like to see the tree it grew on.

Suddenly there was a knock at the side of the warm area. An opening suddenly appeared and into the warmth came two older humans, a male and a female. The male held a pine tree that appeared to have no roots proudly. Isaac and Melody smiled when they saw the tree. Carefully the older male human carried the tree to a stand where he sat it down.

Soon, as Pikachu watched, the humans begun to gather boxes and put various objects on the pine tree. Melody gave Pikachu a round red thing, and then she took a round blue thing and put it on the tree. Pikachu didn’t understand what they where doing, but he knew she wanted him to help place objects on the tree, so he took a low branch and used the hook on the top of the red sphere to hang it on the branch, just as she’d done.

When the humans where done decorating the tree with various items, some of which looked and smelled like food to Pikachu, Melody picked him up again and showed him the full size of the tree. Pikachu watched as the older female human picked up a silver pointed thing and put it at the very top of the tree. The humans cheered and Melody hugged him close.

This, he thought, must be Christmas.

Watch out, there's 11 more besides this. ^_~

Also, lol, I know it doesn't really count since this is a oneshot, but I was just thinking about how rare it is for me to right a fanfic using all canon characters. o_O

Holy crap, this is just adorable. I love how the descriptions make you feel like you're in Pikachu's eyes without really being first-person.

And 'first of a series', and one-shot, you say? Interesting. =O

What I ment by first of a series is that I'm gonna right 12 of these different Christmas stories. I'm going to make each one have focus on a different movie. =/
