Earning Wings. (Anime-Purplethunder and Curtainshipping PG)

A figure stood on the top of a hill. The sun shimmered and the wind blew. The figure scoffed and stood silently. He shouted to the wind. “I’ve come for you! Show yourself!”

“Who goes there? Are you human or pokemon? Why do you come to me? Only those in dire need come to me.”, called a voice. “I am in no need”, scowled the figure. “I have come here to claim you as my own. I am a human. I am superior to you in every way.”

“If you choose to believe so, then you must prove to me that you have a pure heart, human.”

“Pure heart? I do not need a pure heart. Here me out, Arceus. I am Paul. I seek revenge. I must capture you to obtain what I seek.”, said the human.

“No human who attempts such horrific acts against others will triumph over me.” , said the voice.

Paul was suddenly blinded by a harsh light. When he could see again, a magnificent beast stood before him.

“A-Arceus?”, asked Paul.

“Paul Phoenix. You have come here to perform a role for me. The man who calls you his son, Cyrus, is not your true father. Your real father is somewhere in the world looking for you. ”

“That can’t be true! I do not intend to perform any such role for you!”

“Then I must make you by force.”

The light flashed again. But this time, when it disappeared, Paul was alone. He suddenly felt a sharp sting on his forehead. He reached up and felt a bleeding scar. He was shocked whittles. From that day fourth, his encounter with Arceus left him a changed trainer. However, it would not be until years later that the full impact of this encounter was felt. Not just by him, but by everybody he ment.


Chapter one: The Storm.

It rained heavily outside as two shadows darted about in a building. They ment on the bottom floor.
“Reggie-are you sure this is a good idea?”, said the shorter figure.

“We don’t have any other choice. Dad is threatening to kill us.”, said the taller figure. “I suppose you’re right. I just don’t understand why.”, said the shorter figure. “It doesn’t matter. We have to get out of here. I took two Rapidash from the breeding center”, said the taller figure. “They will help us get out of here fast.” “Are you sure they won’t mind?” “Nah. I’m sure they’ll understand. Let’s get going. We’re heading for Solaceon Town first. I have a contact there.”

So the two figures walked the lonely streets of Veilstone City in the dead of night, until they reached the edge of town. Suddenly someone ran from the dark. “Paul! Reggie! I want to come with you!”, said the young girl, stepping out into a street light.

Reggie smiled and walked up to her. He put his hands on her shoulders. “Maylene, I already told you. It’s way too dangerous. Team Galactic will be hounding us all the way. If you go, they’ll be after you too.”

Maylene’s eyes watered. “P-promise you’ll come back someday?” “Of course.”, said Reggie. He seemed calm and relaxed, but Paul knew that in his brother’s heart, he would have rather stayed and died then left Maylene alone. He also knew that there was a good chance they would never be back. But that was like his brother. He would lie to make somebody feel better.

Maylene and Reggie shared a moment’s pause and then Maylene backed away. She ran off crying.

Reggie rubbed his eyes and turned to Paul. “I’m sorry.”, said Paul, who knew his brother was madly in love with Maylene.

“There is nothing that can be done. It’s for her own good anyway.”

Reggie walked over to one Rapidash and threw a saddle over its back, then did the same to the other. “Come on, we need to make a mile before sun up”

Paul prepared to climb on his Rapidash. But as he did so, he felt a flash of dizziness. Paul froze. “What’s the matter?”, said Reggie. “A-are you having a vision?”

“I-I think so,” said Paul. His hands went limp and he fell to the ground.

Strange shadows hopped onto Rapidashes and ride out into the dark. Paul tried to make sense of the vision and suddenly realized that they where Team Galactic members. “!”

Paul stood up and shook his head. “Listen. We have to get out of here now!”

“But-“

“No time to explain! Let’s go!”

Without further delay, the two boys jumped onto the Rapidash and rode away from the only home they had ever known.

Chapter two.

Reggie and Paul rode on for two days and two nights. Finally dawn found them looking over the horizon at Solaceon town. Reggie’s Rapidash snarled and whinnied. Paul looked over at it. “What’s wrong with that thing?!”

Reggie laughed. “You never change, do you? Rapidash is just hungry, that’s all.” “Well so am I, but I’m not complaining.”, said Paul.

“Like I said, I have a contact here. We can stay with her.”

Paul stayed quite and let Reggie and his Rapidash lead the rest of the way. Before long they came to an old worn out looking cottage. Reggie jumped off his Rapidash and knocked on the door.

“Lee! It’s me, Reggie!”

A voice came from inside the house. “Oh come on Reggie, how many times have I told you not to call me that?” A girl opened the door. She had short brown hair and a red T-shirt with a square design, and appeared to be about 16 years old, about Paul’s age. For some strange reason, she was soaked to the bone.

The girl smiled at Paul. “Is this your brother, the mean one?”

“Not anymore”, said Reggie.

“Well good”, said the girl. “Come on in.”

The inside of the cottage was well furnished, but very old fashioned. “Lee” briefly went outside and tied up the Rapidash. She came back in and invited them to sit down.

“So,” said Reggie, “It’s been awhile Lee, how are you doing?” “Reggie, my name isn’t Lee, its Leona” “I know. I just couldn’t resist teasing you.”, said Reggie. “Typical”, sighed Leona. “I’m more then fine. When I heard you where coming I went crazy. What about you?”

Paul sighed. “We’re not so good. Cyrus has been after us.” “You mean your father?”, asked Yommomi.
“Wrong”, said Reggie. Leona looked shocked. “What do you mean?! I thought Cyrus was your father!?”

A Swinub jumped up on Leona’s lap. She stroked it and waited for an explanation, eyes focused one the two people in front of her.

Reggie continued after a brief pause, “We recently received a letter from a man in Kanto claiming to be our real father. He has our birth certificates and a picture he sent in the letter. There’s no denying that it’s true.”

“But there is something else”, said Paul. “A few years ago-and I don’t blame you if you don’t believe me-I had an encounter with the legendary Pokemon, Arceus.” “Arceus!?”, exclaimed Leona. “No, I’m not sure I believe you, but go on!”

Paul felt the scar on his forehead. “Arceus himself told me about Cyrus not being our father. I didn’t listen then, but now I see he was telling the truth.”

Reggie looked down. “I-I just can’t take this anymore! It’s too much! And Cyrus would kill us in an instant if he found us!” Reggie was trying to hold back the tears, but he eventually gave in. Paul looked at his brother firmly. “We have to be strong.”, he said. “How can you be?!” asked Reggie.

Leona looked at them with pity. “You can stay here tonight”, she said. “Thank you,” said Paul, “You’re very kind. Please excuse my brother. He’s under a lot of stress.”

Leona smiled. “I’m going out to do some shopping.”, she said. “I can go for you.”, Paul. “It’s the least we can do to repay you.”

Reggie looked at his brother. “He’s grown up so much”, he said to himself. “He’s such a different person then the jerk I used to know.”

“Why thank you!”, said Leona.

Paul swelled with delight. He loved helping people, and Leona seemed pleased with him.


Chapter three: Casey’s quarrel.

Paul walked through the crowded open air market. As much as he had changed through the years, there would always be one thing he detested.

Too many people.

The confusion was frustrating. What made it worse was that Paul was carrying a heavy package and couldn’t see in front of him. What he didn’t know however was that this was going to impact the near-and far-future of him his, brother, and someone else.

“Shinx! Come back here!”

Paul looked around the package just in time to see a girl chasing a yellow Shinx run into him.

The next thing he knew, Leona’s groceries where spilled everywhere. A can of Pokemon food hit him in the head. The girl stood up and cuffed a hand over her mouth. “Oh, I’m so, so, so sorry!”, she said exsasperatingly.
