| Major Hurricane Paloma, now moving away from Cayman Island, is now impacting Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.As of 7 a.m. EST, Hurricane Paloma was located about 110 miles east-northeast of Grand Cayman Island, or near Cayman Brac, moving to the northeast at 8 mph. Paloma continues to strengthen and based on the latest information for Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter Aircraft, winds near the center have increased to 140 mph; it remains a major category 4 hurricane. Paloma has about peaked in intensity. Weakening late today into Sunday will begin as shearing winds aloft increase.Bands of heavy rain, destructive wind, and high waves will impact the eastern Cayman Islands this morning. Conditions will rapidly deteriorate over central Cuba later today and especially tonight as Paloma makes landfall over central Cuba.Hurricane warnings remain in effect for the Cayman Islands, as well as for most of the southwestern and northeastern central coasts of Cuba. Tropical storm warnings have been posted for the southern Cuba coasts as well.Heavy rain will bring flash flooding and mudslides to east-central Cuba today through Sunday, along with strong winds and high surf along coastal areas.Beyond Sunday, the aforementioned increase in shearing winds aloft, combined with the higher elevations of Cuba, should quickly weaken Paloma to a tropical storm after landfall. It may then emerge south of the Bahamas early next week.As a result, tropical storm watches have been posted for the central Bahamas. http://www.weather.com/newscenter/hurricanecentral/update/index.html?from=hurricane_welcome
